Sottoguda is a hamlet of Rocca Pietore, in the province of Belluno. This small village is located just before Malga Ciapéla, at the foot of the Marmolada, and is part of the "Club of the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy".
It is an ancient mountain village characterized by tabièi , wooden barns widespread in the Dolomite area and used by farmers to store hay and agricultural tools. The oldest building in the village is the small church of Saints Fabiano, Sebastiano and Rocco, built in 1486 following a vow made by the inhabitants.
Immediately after the last houses begins the "Serrai di Sottoguda" gorge, a canyon of about two kilometers dug by the Pettorina stream. Along the path are the Franzei waterfall, the small church of S. Antonio and the Statue of the Madonna dei Serrai located in a natural cave.
The "Serrai di Sottoguda" are also an ideal destination for sports enthusiasts: in winter the canyon waterfalls freeze and offer climbers one of the most internationally appreciated training grounds for ice climbing. In summer, however, they become the ideal setting for easy hiking excursions.
